The Varna Volunteer Fire Company is a diverse, enthusiastic and committed team dedicated to serving the community. While some members come from the neighboring Cornell University - including undergraduate students and faculty - many come from the local communities of the Hamlet of Varna and Ellis Hollow. Our members are given the freedom and incentive to learn as much as possible, with many serving as both firefighters and an EMTs with minimal to no prior experience. Our company incentivizes growth through weekly trainings and by sponsoring members to attend other classes and trainings, locally, nationally and internationally. Our members learn and practice a wide range of fire, rescue, EMS and administrative skills, and are frequently challenged with situations that require intelligent, resourceful, and efficient thinking.
Many choose to participate in our bunker program to dedicate more time to the department. Our company promotes collaboration and continued learning, while emphasizing the role of being a first responder and giving back to our community.
