Mature Volunteers Needed
September 27, 2004
The Varna Volunteer Fire
Company (VVFC) needs more volunteer firefighters
and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to
help keep our community safe. If you are interested, please come and
talk to us by visiting us any Thursday night between 6:30 and 7:30pm
at the fire station (14 Turkey Hill Road). Firefighting and EMS
training is provided by the VVFC and the State of New York.
Become a VVFC member and
enjoy these benefits:
- Serve your local community
in a tangible, meaningful way.
- Learn and develop skills
you can use to protect yourself and your family.
- Become eligible for
NYS's Volunteer
Recruitment Service Scholarship.
- Contribute to strengthening
our Fire Company, along with other service-minded neighbors.
- And, or course, have the
opportunity to learn to drive big trucks!
The Town of Dryden is
considering funding a retirement program
(link opens new window to Simon St. Laurent's "Living in Dryden"
blog), regulated through New York state legislation. This potential future benefit is called the Length of
Service Award Program (LOSAP) which rewards members for years of
service.
The VVFC provides our services
in collaboration with fire, rescue and ambulance companies located
throughout the Town of Dryden, and elsewhere in Tompkins County,
under "mutual aid" agreements. This allows for the optimal
deployment of emergency equipment and trained personnel in as timely
a manner possible. We also rely on the services and expertise of
local hospitals, including their associated helicopter services. All
this infrastructure protects you and the people you love, and
depends critically on volunteers within each community. Won't you
consider joining our all-volunteer Company and doing your part to
ensure that our own community's emergency response services remains
strong?
