Interior Fire Fighter Test


Part 1

The Interior Fire Fighter ("Yellow Helmet") candidate must have successfully completed all of the requirements to be an Active Fire Fighter of the Varna Fire Company. It is expected that this test will be completed in a single session. Only a chief officer can grant exceptions to this policy.

The candidate must be able to:

  1. Don an SCBA off 1901 three times. The average time of three consecutive donnings must be less than 60 seconds, and all three donnings must be of 100% quality.

  2. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the SCBA failure emergency procedures.

  3. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of how to do the low-profile and full escape maneuvers.

  4. Successfully navigate an obstacle course set up by the examining officer. This course must include at least one full-escape in the dark (no flashlight for this).

Part 2: Live Fire Test

Yellow helmet status will be provisional until two additional requirements are completed:
  1. Demonstrate to a chief officer the ability to operate safely and effectively as an interior firefighter at a live fire training.

  2. An examination by a physician that certifies that the fire fighter is physically capable of interior structural fire fighting
