Fire Fighter Test


PART 1

The Fire Fighter candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills without any assistance:

  1. While wearing full turnout gear, correctly check out, don, and begin to breathe air from a Scott 2.2 SCBA within two minutes. (This portion of the test shall be waived for those individuals who may not use SCBA under OSHA standards.)

  2. Demonstrate how to change a cylinder on a Scott 2.2 SCBA while it is being worn by another person.

  3. Demonstrate the correct use of the station air cascade system.

  4. Explain the correct actions to take if he or she is the first on the scene of a(n):
    • MVA,
    • Chimney fire,
    • Structure fire,
    • Hazardous materials incident,
    • Grass fire.

  5. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of how to operate both the mobile (trucks and chief's) and portable radios.

  6. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all the hose and hose loads carried on all Varna apparatus.

  7. Be able to locate quickly and explain briefly the use and operation of all basic equipment on all four pieces of apparatus.

    PART 2

    The fire fighter will be able to demonstrate the following skills with the minimum assistance of another Varna fire fighter.

    1. Set up, start and prime a portable pump.

    2. Set up, start and run lights off portable generator.

    3. Set up, start and demonstrate how to use the Amkus power tool (jaws) cutters, spreaders and rams.

    4. Demonstrate how to set up and use the air bags, air chisel and air filled water rescue hose. Set the proper regulator pressure.

    5. While wearing full turnout gear and breathing from an SCBA, pull a 200-ft preconnected attack line from 1901 and demonstrate a proper attack on a fire.

    6. Reload the 200-ft preconnect on 1901.

    7. While wearing full turnout gear and SCBA, remove a ladder chosen by the examining officer from the truck and correctly set it up and climb it to the top.

    8. Using 1901, make a hydrant connection and charge the supply line. Demonstrate how to make a hydrant connection using a 2½-in hydrant outlet.

    9. Properly shut down the supply line and drain the hydrant.

    10. Reload the supply line on 1901.

    11. Using 1921, help unload the portable pond, help back the tanker up to dump water and then help set up to draft from the pond with 1901.
