Courses Pre-Approved for Reimbursement

Note: Only tuition is reimbursed. Accommodations, meals, and travel expenses
remain the responsibility of the student.
- Any course offered by the NYS Office of Fire Protection and Control,
either at the Academy in Montour Falls, at the Camp Smith Annex in
Peekskill, or at an outreach program. This includes any National Fire
Academy Courses offered by OFPC.
- Courses offered by the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs or the
International Association of Fire Chiefs that are directly related to
incident command, other command functions (such as safety officer,
training officer, infection control officer) or fire fighting/EMS
operations.
Courses that duplicate the courses offered by the NYS-OFPC are
not pre-approved. (NYSAFC/IAFC courses often carry a higher cost than
Academy courses.)
Courses offered by industry or outside (usually for profit)
agencies are not pre-approved.
- CPR courses (original or recertification) offered by the
American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NYS Certified First Responder or American Red Cross Advanced First Aid
(original or recertification).
- New York State EMT-Basic, Intermediate, Advanced (original or
recertification) offered through the Dept. of Health (for example, by
TC3) or the Dept. of State (for example, by OFPC).
- Basic Trauma Life Support and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, offered
in county, for members currently certified as CFR or EMT-Basic or above.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Critical Trauma Care, and Advanced
Cardiac Life Support, offered in county, for members currently certified
as EMT-Intermediate or above.
Note: These courses when offered by the Health Science Center at
Syracuse (and other private concerns) cost 20-300% more, but they may be
approved if county courses are not available and not anticipated.
